Each of these ATV models offer different motors that are capable of some impressive feats. The Honda FourTrax Rancher includes the 420cc Liquid-Cooled Single-Cylinder 4-Stroke engine that includes a 5-speed transmission with reverse capabilities. The Polaris Sportsman comes fitted with a 500cc 4-Stroke Single-Cylinder engine that’s also liquid-cooler. This engine comes fitted with an automatic transmission, which may be unsettling for some drivers who not only like reversing, but also enjoy choosing their own gear transitions. Each ATV can surpass 25 horsepower.
Weight is a very important factor if you plan on going off of jumps during your off-roading experiences. The FourTrax is slightly more compact than the Sportsman, which actually gives it a performance edge. It’s 82.8 inches long, 47.4 inches wide, and 46.2 inches high, and features a 7.2 inch ground clearance and weighs 573 lbs with all fluids topped off.
The Sportsman, on the other hand, is a little larger in frame at 83 inches long, 48 inches wide, and 47 inches high. Its ground clearance is 10.5 inches and it weighs 701 lbs. The FourTrax Rancher has the clear advantage because its lighter weight and slightly more compact frame may make it easier to not only achieve lift-off of jumps, but it may be easier weaving in and out of tight wooded areas.
Each ATV model offers two colors. The FourTrax Rancher is available in Olive and Red while the Sportsman comes in Velocity Blue or Sage Green (which is similar to the Olive). As for the optional accessories to include with your ATV, the Rancher includes way more options, including a winch mount, a plower blade, suspension guards, pocket nets, soft bags, and even a full windscreen. The Sportsman, on the other hand, only offers a few optional accessories like some windshields, bumpers, mirrors, and hand guards. Anything else would need to be from a third party provider.
